December 18, 2006

Standing in line at the check out counter,
Oblivious to onlooker’s stares and concern.
A sign begs, “please have your money ready.”
I fish in my pockets, suddenly aware of forgotten pennies and dimes…
I’m prepared.

The conveyor belt sounds its familiar hum,
making me dizzy.
“Six dollars,” she says,
As I put the bottle of ASPIRIN in my pocket.

No need for a bag.

She smiles, says “Have a nice day sweetie!”
I respond, “yea…soon.”
And walk to my car, where JACK awaits me,
promising to finally take me to heaven
